St. Andrew's Christmas Novena Begins TODAY!

Hello friends,

Today is the feast of St. Andrew the Apostle.  On his feast day we begin this very special and powerful novena.  A novena is commonly known as a prayer that you say for nine days for a special intention or for a feast.  But this novena is prayed through all four weeks of Advent starting on the feast of St. Andrew!

It is piously believed that whoever recites the St. Andrew Christmas novena prayer fifteen times each day from the feast of St. Andrew (30th November) until Christmas Eve will obtain the favor requested.

Hail and blessed be the hour and moment In which the Son of God was born Of the most pure Virgin Mary, at midnight, in Bethlehem, in the piercing cold. In that hour vouchsafe, I beseech Thee, O my God, to hear my prayer and grant my desires,
[here mention your request]
through the merits of Our Saviour Jesus Christ, and of His blessed Mother. Amen.

Please join me and my family in praying this prayer for your own special intention.  It is prayed 15 times a day and we usually pray it 5 times at each meal until December 24th.  It is a wonderful way to prepare our hearts and minds for the birth of Christ at Christmas.

I wrote mine down on an index card last year, decorated it with sketches of an advent wreath and christmas flowers, and then hung it above my desk.   You can print it out, post it online, or copy it down for yourself so you remember to pray it!

Don't forget, the novena starts today, November 30th!  So please pray with me now 5 times!

May God bless you,

Happy New Year!

Hehe!  Today starts the new liturgical year in the Catholic calendar with the first Sunday in Advent!  I really like this season in the Church calendar.  It is a season of watchful waiting and preparation for Christmas, the birth of Jesus, and His final coming at the end of the world.  I am joyfully awaiting the Christmas season and the arrival of the baby Jesus!  I hope your Sunday is blessed.  May we remain watchful for our Lord, Jesus!

God bless,

Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving, dear friends!

I hope your day is filled with every good gift from above!  I am truly thankful for many good things this year.  I'm thankful for my grandparents who are in town, for being able to have dinner with family, for amazingly yummy food, for getting my driver's permit this week (eek! 😮), for my faith, my Church, for Jesus.  I'm thankful for so many things, both big and little, but it's so hard to go into all of them. (I'd be typing here forever...)

What are you thankful for?  Do you have any special plans for today?

Here is a creative list I'd like to challenge you to complete!

List 1 (or more than one thing) in each category!

Something soft

Someone you've known for a long time

Someone new

Thanksgiving food

Something red

Someone who's had a big impact on your life

Something made of/on paper

Dessert item

Activity or event

Something you use every day

I can't wait to see your answers!  Thank you for playing!

May God bless you and give you a safe and very happy Thanksgiving!

The Art of the Love Song...

Last month my family and I piled into our car with some friends excited for the evening ahead.  I was going to see The Annie Moses Band's The Art of the Love Song show.  I had learned of this band only five months prior from some friends when they showed me the "Blush" music video, but I already loved their music.  When our family had received the invitation earlier that week to go see the band, I was thrilled!

We arrived at the theater where we had the chance to watch the band’s sound check session.  As I walked through the door into the theater, I was surprised how close we were to the stage!  The band was amazing as they played some songs, explained about their group, and answered our questions!
Next, we headed upstairs for dinner while the theater was prepped for the evening’s performance.

Finally, it was time to be seated for the show.  I believe we were all a bit nervous and very excited. (I certainly was!)  I enjoyed myself thoroughly from beginning to end.  The theater was amazing as I believe there really wasn’t a bad seat to be had.  You were still very close to the stage even in the back, up top, and the sound of the music filled the room and your soul.  The Annie Moses Band and their friend, Joshua Carswell, were sensational!

The band is a group of 6 siblings, Annie, Alex, Benjamin, Camille, Gretchen, and Jeremiah, accompanied by a few close friends and family. The band combines folk and classical music in a wonderful band that will delight your ears and heart all night long. Here are some of my absolute favorite songs (besides Blush)

(Ok, I'll stop. They have so many good songs! I'll have to do another post with some of their other songs... ;) )

As with all good things, the show came to an end too soon.  I relished the final standing ovation before heading back out into the lobby to meet the band and talk about the show with my friends.  I really loved that we were all right there getting to meet and talk with these great artists. Annie, Benjamin, Joshua, and the others were all so gracious to take pictures with everyone, sign cds, and chat!

As a musician myself, this show experience was inspiring and unforgettable.  I have played piano, recorder, and am now learning violin.  This opportunity was inspiring for me to practice violin, like these artists have for so many years, very faithfully.  Even though I may never tour in a band like them, I certainly hope to strive to practice and get very good, like them.  I loved listening to such talented artists.  But most of all, I very much appreciated the purpose of this band’s songs and message; honor love in all it’s seasons and to pay tribute to such wholesome classic love songs and the people who’ve inspired them.

I'm sure you know though, if you've ever been to a live concert, that the music is so much more full, beautiful, and amazing live, so if you ever have a chance to go see the Annie Moses Band on tour, I would highly suggest it!

Please Pray With Me

"It is related in the annals of Clairvaux that St. Bernard once asked Our Lord which was His greatest unrecorded suffering, and that Our Lord condescended to answer: 'I had on my shoulder, while I bore my cross on the way of sorrows, a most grievous wound, which was more painful to me than the others, and which is not recorded by men because they knew not of it. Honour this wound with thy devotion, and I will grant thee whatsoever thou dost ask through its virtue and merit. And in regard of all those who shall venerate this wound, I will remit to them all their venial sins, and will no more remember their mortal sins.'"

Perhaps we can all venerate this beautiful, secret wound and beg, through its divine merits, that our country obtain the person that will best lead and help us, if it be Our Lord's Holy Will.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, we place our trust in YOU!

All Saints' Day

Blessed feast of All Saint's day to you!

Today is the beautiful feast of all the saints in Heaven.  As Catholics, we have days set aside throughout the year to remember and pray in a special way to God's beloved Saints who have been officially recognized by the Church as in Heaven and as special role models for us.  People such as St. Teresa of Calcutta, St. Nicholas, or St. Patrick all have a special day to remember them.

But what about all those souls in Heaven who aren't canonized or don't have a special day?  Their feast day is November 1st, All Saints Day.  We remember the faithful in Heaven and ask them to pray to our good Jesus for us!  Just as I pray for you, the saints, who are with Jesus in Heaven, pray to him for us.  How special it is that we have friends so close to God?!  Always remember to ask the saints for help!

What are you doing to celebrate All Saints Day?

May God bless you,
