Homeschooler of the Month: July

Hello everyone!

This month's Homeschooler of the Month is Jacquie, my sister!  You can read her blog She is Modest.
So, let's get started!

1) Introduce yourself!  Your name and age (if you don't mind)  When did
you start homeschooling?  What are some of your life aspirations?

My name is Jacqueline and I am 14 years old.  I started homeschooling eight years ago when I was in second grade.  I would really like to be a homeschool mom and online teacher for the curriculum we use, and maybe even build a Hobbit community. :)

2) What curriculum do you use?  What is your favorite subject or part of
 school?

I use Mother of Divine Grace, a Catholic Classical curriculum.  My favorite subject is history because of all the books I get to read.

 3) What do you do for fun when you're not homeschooling?

When I'm not schooling, I like to read, write stories, play piano, or draw.

 4) What kind of books do you read for fun? What book character do you most
 relate to?

I like to read a lot of adventure/action books, some with slight romances, such as The Lord of the Rings trilogy or The Witch of Blackbird Pond.  I think the character I would most relate to is Cottia from The Eagle of the Ninth, though the end of my story hasn't been played out yet.

 5) What is your plan for after high school?  Is college part of your plan?
 If so, what college(s)?

I am currently thinking about WCC (Wyoming Catholic College).  I really like their outdoor leadership program that spends weeks at a time up in the mountains.
The students at WCC built snow altars for Mass on their outdoor program's winter trip!

 6) What is one thing you'd like to do when you're grown up? (serious or
 fun)

I would love to be able to go to New Zealand, not even just for all of the Hobbit and Lord of the Ring's places over there, but just because of how green and gorgeous it is.

 7) Do you get any interesting questions when you tell people you're
 homeschooled?  What are some?

Not a whole lot, but probably the question I'm most asked by my public school friends is "Do you get to wear your pjs while doing school?"

 8) Who is your favorite Saint?

My favorite Saint is St. Elizabeth of Hungary.

9) What is the most memorable thing about homeschooling?  Do you have any
 funny stories about homeschooling?

The most memorable thing for me about homeschooling is doing school with my sister under the dining room table once.  That is, until our mom came in and said there wasn't enough light, which there wasn't.

 10) What is your favorite bible verse? Do you have a favorite quote?

My favorite bible verse is Jeremiah 29:11, which says, "'For I know the plans I have for you,' says the Lord, 'Plans to prosper you, and not to harm you.  Plans to give you hope, and a future.'"
My favorite quote is, "The world is indeed full of peril and in it there are many dark places.  But still there is much that is fair.  And though in all lands, love is mingled with grief, it still grows, perhaps, the greater still." ~J. R. R. Tolkien

 11) Do you have any advice for beginning homeschoolers or people
considering homeschooling? (from a student's perspective)

The advice that I would give would be, although homeschooling is not always easy, it's worth it.
